Our History |
Amherst County High School became a fully integrated high school in 1970. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited discrimination against blacks and women. At this time students from the African-American Central High School could choose to attend ACHS. With the five students who came in the fall of 1964, came Maurice L. Moore, a profound educator from Central High School. He educated the students of Amherst County from 1948-1988. Our library later became known as the Maurice L. Moore library.
